Animal Caretaker

In the role of animal caretaker at Kolmården, you are part of a team that ensures the highest possible welfare standards for the department's animals. You are responsible for ensuring that the facilities are exceptionally clean, that the animals are fed regularly and correctly, and that they receive the enrichment and stimulation they need. You are also required to carefully observe the animals and their behavior daily, handle and build close relationships with the animals, log activity and health in detail, and assist with veterinary procedures. You will also have a strong, continuous collaboration with Kolmården's research and education departments.

The right conditions for thriving at work are that you have good theoretical and practical knowledge of animal care. If you have worked with animals before, for example with horses, in agriculture, or at another zoo, we see this as highly meritorious. You need to be in very good physical condition and have a manual B driver's license. You need to be able to communicate in Swedish and have basic knowledge of English. To succeed in the role, you must enjoy working with your body, be meticulous, quick to learn, and enjoy working with people. Since you will also be leading guided tours and presentations, you need to be comfortable on stage and speaking into a microphone in front of large groups.

The positions as animal caretakers are both full-time and part-time during the period from April to September. The work is scheduled during the day, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays. The position may be combined with the role of animal informer.

Animal Informer

As an Animal Informer, it is your task to teach visitors and groups in an inspiring and professional manner as they experience our zoo and our educational programs.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for animals and nature and who wants to share their knowledge in an inspiring way. We offer an exciting and varied job that means you will meet everyone from school classes during the school terms to families with children in the zoo during the summer. Teaching mostly takes place in the zoo's various environments such as at enclosures, in stables, dolphinarium, and safari park.

To be considered for the position, you should either have completed a high school education in animal care or be in the process of completing/ have completed a university education in biology, environmental science, animal care, or similar. Additionally, you should enjoy speaking in front of small and large groups and holding informative presentations with a microphone. You need to be able to communicate in Swedish and have basic knowledge of English.

The positions as animal informers are seasonal part-time positions running from mid-March to the end of August with a good chance of extension. We will conduct background checks on all final candidates as part of the recruitment process. The position may be combined with the role of animal caretaker.
